The Problem We Saw
Walk down any British high street and you'll notice the same thing: shuttered shops, empty units and "To Let" signs where thriving businesses once stood. Meanwhile, the cafés, salons, barbers and independent retailers that remain are fighting harder than ever to keep customers coming back.
We asked ourselves a simple question: what if technology could bring people back to the high street instead of pulling them away?
Why We Built Lokaly
Lokaly was born in London from a belief that local businesses are the heartbeat of our communities. They're where neighbours become friends, where the barista knows your order and where the shop owner remembers your name.
But staying visible in a world of apps, algorithms and online giants isn't easy. Small businesses don't have marketing departments or loyalty consultants. They have passion, quality and personal service — they just need help getting discovered and remembered.
That's where Lokaly comes in.
We built a platform that does two things no other loyalty app does: it helps merchants reward their regulars and get discovered by new customers in their area. When someone opens Lokaly looking for a coffee shop or a haircut, they find the independent businesses on their doorstep — not just the chains with the biggest advertising budgets.

"I started Lokaly after watching my favourite local café struggle to compete with the chain that opened across the road. They had better coffee, friendlier staff and had been part of the community for years. But the chain had an app, a loyalty scheme and a marketing budget.
It didn't seem fair. So I built something to help.
I grew up understanding the value of local businesses. They're not just shops — they're where communities are built. The barber who's cut three generations of hair. The café owner who sponsors the local football team. The salon where everyone knows everyone's business (in the best way).
These places matter. And they deserve tools that help them compete — not just survive, but thrive.
